Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World – Norah Jones

Mistakes can be beautiful.

A friend asked me if I have this particular song on my office laptop, as he adores that song. I told him I don’t have it right then, but I might have it at home. Later that night at home, I was looking for that song on my iTunes list (no, not there) and among my CD collection (nope, not there either).

So I turned to various friends online to hunt down the song. They rose to the occassion magnificently, supplying me with various renditions of the same song.

Problem was, my friend asked for “Somewhere Out There“, and I thought it was “Somewhere Over the Rainbow“. LOL

So I have clips of Norah Jones, Tori Amos, Eric Clapton and Celine Dion singing the same song. As I listened to them, suddenly I remembered why that song struck a deep chord in me.

It was Connie Talbot. Remember the six year old who sang in British’s Got Talent? I first hear her sang the song in the audition (video here) and then the same song in the finals (video here).

I was mesmerized then, I am mesmerized now. Some songs are just pure gold.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Some day I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can’t I?
Some day I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemondrops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can’t I?

Onto another news: I bought my very first Norah Jones’ album. Yeah yeah yeah, I am a late bloomer. Listening to it now and loving it.

Oh God, this song brings back bad memories. U were singing this & Angel (Robbie Williams) in the cab back from clubbing when u were drunk on national day eve. U were out of tune & singing wrong lyrics. I was correcting u all the way. And then u bit my shoulder. Twice. Pffft.

@ Cheryl – Oh God, was I that horrible? LOL. If I can sing this while I am drunk, means I must have really liked it. And thanks for letting me bite! :P

this medley of the two songs is not from Norah Jones. it is sung by singer Aselin Debison on her CD “Sweet is the Melody” (Track 5).

@ Mark – Yup! I realised that after buying the latest Jazz in the City album from the High Society Series in Singapore. Is Aseline Debison any good? She sounded amazing in the medley!
