When you get paid for what you blog about

I have been tinkling with many money-making mechanisms on the web. Some are relatively simple to implement, like Google Adsense and Nuffnang. Others require a bit more work.

Like writing blog reviews.

The concept is simple. Advertisers tell you what you should blog about – call “Opportunities” – that they are willing to pay for. Bloggers go into the “Marketplace”, and select the opportunities they want to blog about. If your post is approved, then voila! You get money credited to your account.

Sounds simple, isn’t it? Not really. Quite a lot of effort is needed. You really need to do a good job in reviewing the product/service. If you don’t usually use a particular service, how can you blog something that actually will benefit your readers and the advertisers? And if you are the greedy type, what are the risks that you’ll fill your blog with “sponsored” posts, and anger your readers?

Decision, decision. But is it as tough as it sounds?

Definitely not. What you need to do is simple – blog about something you care about. If you are naturally interested in a particular service or product, you’ll be able to blog a convincing post, that will benefit your readers. Keep your reviews objective and impartial. Write what you really think. Advertisers benefit the most when your readers are engaged about what you are reading – and that’s your honest opinion.

Now, this blog post is about earning money by penning some blog reviews. What do I think about them?

I have just registered with them not too long ago. So I can’t really comment if they really provide quality opportunity that will really be suitable for the average blogger like me. But let’s take a look at what my fellow bloggers have to say about PayPerPost:

  • Sha compared PayPerPost with its nearest competitor, and adviced on how you can make some money out of it. In fact, this was the post that made me signed up with PPP :)
  • Andrew Wee wondered if blogging for dollars is really worth the time, even at US$20 per post. However, such sum to small bloggers – like yours truly – is rather significant.
  • Can you really influence your readers with sponsored post? Chee Kui seems to think so, with some stats to back it up
  • Is paid blogging ethical? Check out this informative post from Kian Ann and make your own decision.

As for me? I am certainly starting with PayPerPost on a good note, and will track how well this collaboration will work out.

Wish me luck!
