The one with food, travel, movies, chick lits… and other social, shiny bits of the Internet
It was a long overdue hair cut.
My fancy hair cut done during my trip to KL did not really lasted me long. The side burn was longish, the top was kind of swept longish… It had been a long time since I last kep my hair so long.
At the moment when I stepped into Kak Leza’s house for my raya visit yesterday and she said “You need a hair cut!”, I know the time is now.
What’s more – I am due for a date some important event later this week, so I took some friend’s advice and went to this place called Deng Salon
The place was located at Adelphi Centre, opposite Funan Mall. Located at an obscure walkway on Level 3, I was kinda amaze any shop can survive in that quiet and deserted environment. Apparently the salon is frequented by regulars, and judging by their price list, I have no doubt why they can survive.
Yes, it cost me an arm and a leg, but more of that later.
My hairstylist for the day was Kelly. She took one look at me (or rather, my hair) and enquired what is my preferred style. I told her none. As long as the new style is different, I am happy. Let me show you why:

Those are my “before” photos. How pathetic was my hair!
(By the way, Deng Salon has a practice taking their customers’ “before” and “after” photos for record. These shots were by them – except for the last one)
She asked me if I am okay with some spiky, Japanese look, and I said okay. She proceeded to cut my hair with some very unique, err, method, I couldn’t stop staring at the mirror. Soon the magazine in my hand was forgotten.
All through my session, Kelly was telling me about this product and that product. Everytime I go to a new hairstylist, I am always wary of this:
Yes, I know that my hair is thinning
Yes, I know that my hair is coated with wax
Yes, I know my scalp is oily
And, yes, I know my scalp is sensitive.
She recommended a scalp care shampoo for me, and a cleansing shampoo. In the end, she threw in a new hair finish product for good measure.
Of course (ahem) being the vain metrosexual rational macho man I am, I was reluctant to get their products.
But Kelly tried it on me, and I gotta admit there were indeed differences to my hair and scalp.
The battle, for her, was half won. And half lost for me. Finally, she won me over by new, fabolous hair cut:

Nice? Of course. Trendy? You bet. Gay? Err, maybe.
I was happy with the results, and I am sure many people will appreciate it.
(Sure enough, on my way home, many people were staring at me)
(Me, making heads turn!)
(… maybe it was my thinning scalp they were staring at. Oh well)
So I took all three products from Kelly. I made her a happy woman.

The total damage? S$156.
$50 for the hair cut, S$48 for the scalp care, S$28 for the shampoo and S$33 for the hair finish.
Now let’s hope that I will be able to style this hair again!
